The options at a glance
| Device | Best for |
|---|---|
| Fire TV Stick | The simplest start; hides behind the TV |
| Android TV box | More storage and a network port for a steadier picture |
| Google TV device | Easy app installs from the Play Store |
| MAG box | People who want a classic set-top box with a remote |
| Computer via HDMI | A spare laptop you already own |
Fire TV Stick: the easiest
It plugs straight into the HDMI port, connects to Wi-Fi and comes with its own remote. The only drawback is limited storage, so keep it tidy. Our Fire TV Stick guide takes about ten minutes.
Android TV box: the steadiest
Boxes are a little bigger, but most have a network port. If you can run a cable from the router, a box gives the most stable picture for long matches. Setup is in our Android guide.
MAG box and computer
A MAG box is a classic set-top box built for IPTV: you send us the device code on its screen and we activate it. A laptop connected by HDMI also works, though it's less comfortable to control from the sofa.
Check before you buy
- An HDMI port on the TV (look on the back or the side).
- A power socket or a USB port nearby; most sticks come with a mains adapter.
- A decent Wi-Fi signal where the TV is, or a cable.
